The Song You Forgot

You can slide your fingers
through a swath of
green trees
where all the leaves
grow and sing
in unison,
the song you forgot,
for having grown up
surrounded and even
placed beneath your feet
this concrete jungle
your eyes spend
too much time fixed on.

But how often do you?

But you do look up
and with longing
see the sky carrying
all day long above you
flows by the natural world.
That if it were possible,
you’d even wish
for the violent shake
it would take and
upside down turning
of this concrete globe city
to drop you,
in a twisted reverse of gravity
where you’d fall finally
upwards, and into the river
that pulls you constantly,
towards the singing of the trees.
