Necessary Breaths

The struggle is real
beneath the weight
and breadth of life,
with back pressed
firm against the earth
we feel, are we not?
one with this element,
deplete of minerals,
in need of oxygen,
constant, we take for
granted these involuntary
but necessary breaths,
and Life, who makes
no excuses, for her or
us, demands we give
our all, and pulls from
our hands everything
we attempt to cling to,
until we let go and
release what we have
not yet said yes to, “yes!”
so the weight becomes
light, and the burden,
no longer ours to carry,
becomes bearable.

Oooh. I like this one. It reads like something very real, like biting into an apple that’s cold and tart. Life’s questions and demands. And letting go:

    “yes!”
    so the weight becomes
    light, and the burden,
    no longer ours to carry,
    becomes bearable.

    :-)
