Counts

Time runs round
the wrists
like the ticking
of seconds,
and you ask,
“how is it?” that
the mouth salivates,
as it does, for the
want of the world?

But we know already,
that the answer lies
in the shortness of life,
and the lack of
not making the most
of every minute
counts.

Although this is a relatively concise piece of poetry I was impressed by how smoothly it was able to create a concept and question, then respond to it so efficiently. The shorter lines helped to emphasise the idea of seconds constantly ticking past by drawing the reader quickly down the stanzas.
