“Darling”

I wanted to call you
“Darling,”
with arms
wrapped around you,
like dreams
that were
mine to give,
the word travels
down darkened
waterways;
the canals
to your ears
till sinks
into the whirlpool
of your cochlea
it disappears
and corkscrews
into the firing
of your synapses,
with breathless,
playful overbite,
with tug upon
the earlobe,
the mind presses
into memory,
“my Darling, my Dear.”

I love the structure of this poem: one long stanza with short lines. The detail and description is beautiful.
